The development of the IT market in Poland. How has outsourcing affected the current market structure?
For many companies, outsourcing is the most effective way to develop IT solutions, enabling cost reduction, access to specialized expertise, and the ability to scale their business. Since the advent of outsourcing, the IT industry in Poland has undergone significant changes. How? Find out below!
Development in IT – how was it before and how is it now?
Between 2019 and 2025, as many as 68% of entrepreneurs in Poland appreciated the support provided by outsourcing providers, according to the Outsourcing 2019–2025 report. Changes and trends carried out by Grant Thornton (an auditing and consulting organization). Poland is the third most preferred location in the world for foreign investors, which further drives the development of the IT and BPO sectors.
Outsourcing has become a crucial element in supporting the development of IT competencies and accelerating IT development in Poland. In 2025, the value of the IT market in Poland exceeded PLN 74 billion. For comparison, according to information provided by the Polish Information and Trade Agency, the value of the IT sector in Poland in 2011 was PLN 31.3 billion.
As of today, over 388,000 people work in business outsourcing. In 2011, outsourcing accounted for 29% of the sector’s total value. Currently, Poland is a leader in outsourcing, and the trend is upward, as this figure is as much as 10% higher.
The development of the IT industry in Poland in numbers
The impressive figure of PLN 74 billion mentioned above is a notable success. The growth in IT is enormous, as confirmed by the 5.7% year-on-year increase. The services and software segment is growing particularly rapidly. It reached a value of PLN 34 billion with an annual growth of over 8%.
What is the reason for this success? Undoubtedly, it is the work culture and knowledge of Polish specialists. Interestingly, this applies not only to IT but also to other areas of expertise. Nearly 40% of them know more than two foreign languages, and 80% speak at least one. This shows that human capital in Poland is a solid foundation for the further development of the IT industry.
AI in the IT market – what is its impact, and what if my company has a legacy system?
AI has taken over almost all industries. The figures above demonstrate that artificial intelligence has a clearly positive impact on the market, with companies utilizing it extensively. Poland is the leader in the region. Polish business service centers (BSS) account for about 70% of all BSS centers in Central and Eastern Europe. They specialize in advanced services, including cybersecurity, advanced data analysis, and comprehensive financial process support.
Legacy systems – how to modernize them?
But what if we have a legacy system, i.e., an IT infrastructure that is relatively traditional and somewhat outdated, but with which we are familiar? Should we overhaul this system as part of our digital transformation? Of course not, because everything depends on business goals and budget.
In many cases, modernizing a legacy system does not mean completely removing it, but instead gradually rebuilding it. However, an experienced and qualified team is necessary to manage a legacy system.
An experienced team can propose an approach based on microservices, i.e., dividing an extensive, monolithic system into smaller, independent modules. This allows each function to be developed, tested, and implemented separately, without the risk of destabilizing the entire infrastructure. In the visual layer, microfrontends are increasingly being used to create modular interfaces; for example, the login panel, shopping cart, or search engine can be developed independently by different teams.
This approach shortens implementation times, facilitates integration with new technologies (e.g., cloud computing or analytical tools), and increases the system’s resilience to failures. Additionally, it enables the gradual introduction of innovations without requiring the complete replacement of the software.
According to data from 2022 and rankings by HackerRank and TopCoder, Polish specialists ranked third globally in terms of programming skills.
